Healthy Steps For Older AdultsOverview

The Pennsylvania Department of Aging offers this fall risk screening and prevention program to adults 60 years of age and older. The program is designed to raise awareness of falls, introduce steps on how to reduce falls, improve overall health, and provide referrals and resources. The program is taught by Certified Workshop Leaders. Lunch will be provided. Space is limited and registration is required. 

Healthy Steps for Older Adults (HSOA) addresses many common causes of falls:

    • Environmental safety
    • Balance, strength, flexibility, and endurance exercises
    • Nutrition
    • Foot health
    • Sensory deficits (vision/hearing)
    • Side effects of medication
    • Health status/disease states, including substance use
    • The need to maintain an active lifestyle
    • Social connectedness
    • Mental and spiritual well-being

Register

Healthy Steps workshops are free to eligible seniors 60 years of age and better. Dates and times are announced in April. Interested individuals may register by calling the contact information for the session they are interested in.

Health and Wellness Arthritis Foundation Exercise Class and Walk With Ease Program - Overview

Our poular Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program and Walk With Ease Program are run by certified leaders. Numerous exercise classes are availalbe and designed to improve your jont function, increase strength and balance, reduce pain and inflamation, and gain a sense of wellbeing. Our fun classes are effective and offer you an opportunity to socialize.  Our senior centers offer different programs as well as other classes.  Call your local GECAC Senior Center to learn more about their classes, scheduled speakers, live entertainment, blood pressure screenings, lunch, trips, and more.
