Programs & Services:  Background 

 

GECAC offers programs and services that are dedicated to the advancement of opportunity for education and training, the opportunity to work and the opportunity to live in decency and dignity. The Agency provides a wide range of programs in cooperation with many community agencies and the private sector to provide a comprehensive network of services. 

   

Programs & Services:  Description 

 

To provide a continuum of social service, GECAC's services are divided into eight service areas which can be accessed by clicking on the appropriate tab at the top of this page or the links below for more information: 

Aging & Elderly

. . . . Provides services for the well and frail Elderly. 

Erie Capacity Building Collaborative

. . . . Helps grassroots organizations develop their capacity to better serve those in need in Erie County. 

Housing Assistance

. . . . Provides rent, security deposit, mortgage and utility assistance payments on behalf of eligible applicants to landlords or vendors.

Utility Assistance

. . . . Provides case management and monetary assistance for owners and renters, who through no fault of their own, are unable to make utility payments.

College Bound 

. . . . Identifies young people with the potential for education beyond high school through the Educational Talent Search program and provides pre-college orientation services for individuals enrolled in Upward Bound.

Education Training and Community Services 

. . . . Provides casework and support services to promote self-sufficiency. 

Workforce Development

Through a partnership with Erie CareerLink, the Workforce Development Services division, provides job matching services, supportive services, skill training, On-the-Job Training, job development, and follow-up services to our clients. 

R. Benjamin Wiley Learning Center

. . . . An accredited school that offers GED and Adult Basic Education classes as well as Citizenship class and family literacy. 

Weatherization

. . . . Provides energy efficiency improvements to eligible owner and renter residences within Erie.  

Transportation

. . . . Provides transportation to and from locations in Erie County.

Child Development (Head Start) 

. . . . Head Start is a comprehensive low-income early childhood education program which serves children from age 3 to age 5.
